Chatsmore’s Primary Badminton Festival 2012On the 25th January 2012, Chatsmore Catholic High School hosted the annual Badminton Festival for all cluster schools. With Badminton playing a big part of London 2012, the idea is to give the pupils as much opportunity as possible to participate in Olympic Sporting Events...Next up Netball!
However, the Badminton festival was run with great help from the Chatsmore Key Stage 3/4 Badminton Squad who spent plenty of time coaching the individuals and developing their awareness of the rules and regulations. When the tournament got going, the standard of Badminton on show was very impressive with the pupils adapting to the game very well. In the end St Catherines Catholic Primary School managed to reign victorious over the girl’s tournament and English Martyrs took the boys crown!
Well done to all athletes for performing in the true spirit of the games and thank you to all teachers, parents and coaches for their assistance.

Angmering Cluster Table Tennis Players Prepare for OlympicsSt. John the Baptist hosted our first “Angmering Cluster Prepares” event ahead of the Olympics Week which will take place throughout National School Sport Week from June 25 – June 29th later this year.
Twenty eight Year 3 table tennis players arrived keen and eager to represent their schools in what was planned as a fun introduction to the sport and the chance to get ready for an event that will take place in the summer term.
The players were organised into mini leagues where they played round robin matches.
With many parents and staff acting as scorers, the players were encouraged to develop their skills throughout the evening. Indeed, the standard of play markedly improved as the players became more confident. There were, by the end of the evening, some very exciting rallies and games.
Each group produced a player in the “Gold Medal” position and all schools have been provided with certificates so that the prospective Olympians can be presented with them in front of their whole school. Well done to all who participated.
Many thanks to all the scorers, including Bill Silk the Bronze Olympic Ambassador from Ferring, and especially to Mr. Galvin for organising the event.
Group Winners:
Nathan (Brazil / East Preston Juniors)
Alex (China / St John the Baptist)
Jack P (Kenya / Georgian Gardens)
Chloe E (Australia / St. Margaret’s)
Chloe O (South Africa / St. Wilfrid’s)

‘Albion in The Community’ Provide a Disability Sports Session to TLA LeadersCommunity and Higher Sports Leaders experienced a range of sports played by people with physical or sensory disabilities at a recent session delivered by Nikki Richardson from Albion in the Community. Increased awareness of each disability will hopefully help the leaders when they assist at forthcoming events organised by Southern Area Disability Group.

Working with young people: Davison’s Healthy Body Healthy Mind ClubThis year Davison students from across the year groups have been part of the healthy body healthy mind club. They have had the opportunity to work with basketball coaches, do cheerleading, trampolining and other activities that are helping to improve fitness, communication skills and confidence.
Over the last few weeks these students have been given the opportunity to work on their leadership, communication and organisational skills. They have been busy planning, practicing and organising an activity session for year 3 from Lyndhurst First School. Last week the pupils from Lyndhurst came over to Davison to take part in an jam pack activity session led by the Davison students. The younger pupils were split into 4 teams and moved around completing various activities including Speed Stacking, target games, New Age Curling and basketball shooting scoring points as a team as they went.
The Davison student were fabulous role models and thoroughly enjoyed working with the younger Lyndhurst pupils. Thank you to the staff and pupils from Lyndhurst for coming along and taking part in this event.
Once again well done to the Healthy Body Healthy Ming girls and to Mrs Vicki Stitt for all her hard work this term. You were a credit to Davison.
Thank you to Vikki Stitt for all her hard work this term.

Young Leaders try Paralympic SportsTwenty four young leaders from across the Sports Partnership (two delegates from each secondary school) have met on two separate occasions to learn about their role as Young Leaders/Adistars . Their aim is to help raise the profile of the London 2012 Olympics and spread the word about the Ollympic and Paralympic Values – respect, friendship, personal excellence, courage, determination, inspiration and equality)
After a session on Team building and trying to beat Sebastion Coe’s Olympic record, the students learnt about disability sports playing boccia, new age Kurling, seated Volleyball and Blind football. The first two activities were ably taught by two National disabled athletes from angmering, Tyler Paul and Matt Berry, followed by Nikki and Dwane from Seagulls Specials. A big ‘thank you’ to all of you for giving up your time to offer your expertise, it was invaluable. An enjoyable and informative evening was had by all learning to sign and participating in all the different sports.
Students have now been asked to introduce a Paralympic sport back at their own schools – so watch this space!
