Stoolball in the Sun... A Great Way to Spend A Summer’s Evening.
8 teams from the Angmering Cluster Group Came to the Sports College to participate in the annual stoolball festival, and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
With many of the players have participated in after school clubs either at their schools or under the supervision of Inspire Leisure’s initiative to develop the sport alongside local clubs, it was good to see so many KS2 children participating in the local sport.
The sides were divided into two groups and played a round robin of “pairs stoolball” over 6 – eight ball overs per side. There were many sixes smashed and fours blasted, alongside some outstanding catching in the field.
With the games being umpired with experienced players from the local clubs, the matches ran smoothly and the large crowds were entertained throughout by the excitement that the children provided.
It is hoped that the children continue to play the game in the summer and the years ahead.
Many thanks to all the umpires who helped out, and the staff, as always for giving up their time and energy to provide the opportunity for the school players.
The final positions were as follows:
GROUP A:
1st: St. John the Baptist, 2nd: Georgian Gardens “A”, 3rd: St. Wilfrid’s Y5, 4th: East Preston “B”
GROUP B:
1st: East Preston “A”, 2nd: Ferring, 3rd: Georgian Gardens “B”, 4th: St. Wilfrid’s Y6

Year 3 & 4 Quad Kids Produce All Round Athletic Performances
Eighty Year 3 and 4 athletes descended upon the Angmering Sports College Athletics track and fields to take part in the first Quad Kids Athletics event to be organised in the Cluster group.
This new initiative by the English Schools Athletics Association aims to provide a transition from multi- skills type potted sports events into more formal athletic activity. Athletes are required to follow a rotation whereby they compete in a series of heats of Vortex Howler Throwing, Standing Long Jump, 50 Metre Sprints and a 600 Metre run.
With 20 different teams of 4 athletes present, the fields were buzzing with running, jumping and throwing as enthusiastic parents cheered on the performers. All the children – now school athletes – showed great determination and strove to produce their best performances and help their teams achieve the title of Quad Kids Champions.
The event was marshalled by an army of sports volunteers from Angmering, many from Year 7, and who were ably led by Emma, Josh and Abi from Year 10. Thanks must also go to Gill Western and Kathy Lockyear for their sterling work on the 600M run.

Angmering Cluster Gifted & Talented Day
Students from the Angmering Cluster came up to the Sports College during National School Sports Week to take part in a Gifted and Talented PE & Dance Day.
Coaches came in to lead Trampolining, Ultimate Frisbee, Tri-Golf, Handball, Multi-skills, Athletics and Gymnastics activities for years 2 to 5. Year 6 students were given a day’s intensive Basketball with community coach Mark Davies, and two groups of dancers worked with Julie Fox to produce some excellent performances at the end of their sessions.
Staff from the primary schools were invited up to gain an insight into the work undertaken at the secondary school and also to gain further knowledge about the activities from the coaches. It was also a fine opportunity to see their top performers in activities they were used to and a range of new ones.
The students worked exceptionally hard throughout the day, and were provided with several pathways to continue the activities. Teamwork, fitness, skill development and tactical awareness were all areas that were touched up during the sessions. All the athletes went home tired, with certificates in hand and happy with their gifted and talented performances.
Many thanks to Pippa Couch (Gymnastics), Alan Denyer (Athletics), Julie Fox (Dance), Alice Tytherleigh (Trampoline), Jon Mills (Multi-skills) and Mark Davies (Basketball|) for their support and hard work throughout the day.

Athletics Track Stars Go For Gold
Approximately 70 year 4, 5 & 6 students in the Angmering Cluster descended onto the Angmering track last week in attempt to push themselves to the limit in a “friendly” Athletics Track Trials Meeting.
Students were able to enter up to 6 different track events, competing in heats to register a time and a set new personal best. The events were 50M, 70M, 80M, 100M, 150M, & 600M. The events were on a purely individual basis, and athletes could record their times on their personal race card before comparing them against English Schools Athletics Association standards for Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.
Most athletes ended up competing in all 6 events and it proved a useful exercise not only for the staff to select teams, but also for the students themselves to see where their strengths lie.
Many thanks to the Angmering Sports Leaders and staff from East Preston, St. Wilfrid’s and Ferring schools for helping to run the meeting.

Three in a Row for Georgian Gardens.
8 teams from 5 of the Angmering Cluster group schools converged on the Sports College to contest the annual basketball festival. Always a noisy event, this year was no exception as the players worked hard to top their individual groups before heading in to the play-offs.
There was plenty to keep the large crowd excited as many of the matches were very even, some being decided by the odd basket scored right on the final buzzer.
In the 7th & 8th place play off, St John the Baptist beat Georgian Gardens “B”, whilst St. Wilfrid’s beat Georgian Gardens “C” to gain 5th place. Ferring beat East Preston “B” to gain 3rd spot and in the 1st and 2nd place play off, Georgian Gardens dominated to beat East Preston “A” 12 – 2 and retain their trophy, winning for the third successive year.
Angmering Cobras head coach, Mark Davies, was very impressed with the standard of play and after congratulating them all, he urged the players to keep working on their skills to become even better.
Indeed, he encouraged them to attend Cobras training on Saturday morning between 9.30 and 10.30 to make use of the development programme that is running.
Many thanks to Tom and Georgina from Angmering for volunteering to referee, and to Mark for assisting also.
