Sussex Cup First Round.
Congratulations to Davison's Year 8 football team for a 3-0 win away from home against a very tough Angmering team. A brace from Lydia Morton and stunning 20 yard cracker from Paula Howells finished off a hard fought victory for the away team in this 1st round match. Good luck in the next round girls!

LYNDHURST LIVING THE ‘POSITIVE PLAY’ DREAM!
Eight months on from their Positive Play training, Lyndhurst First School has put in place a new and improved system during their play times and lunch times. The lunch time supervisors have introduced clear zones in the playground which now allows ball games, small equipment games and free running to take place safely. It has been reported that there are now fewer accidents, which is a real positive! There is also a ‘play leader’ system in place where six Year 3 children take on the responsibility of looking out for the younger ones and helping with games. Keep up the good work!

GIRLS FOOTBALL—UNDER 16 SUSSEX CUP
The area was well represented in this competition with two schools into the semi final. Both Steyning Grammar School and Davison reached this round and had to play their respective games on Friday 8th December.

Steyning Grammar played host to Helenswood from Hastings, and it was a nail biting match for both the players and spectators. Both teams where not about to give up and played some outstanding football. However Steyning were the victors with an excellent goal from Jordan Lucas, who wrong footed the goalkeeper, to place the ball in the top right hand corner with 5 minutes left of the game. Katie Lambert and Katie Cuddington made sure that nothing was going to go pass them in the last dying seconds of the game making some excellent tackles and saves. Steyning are now through to the Under 16 National Cup.

Davison High School hosted travelling team Seaford Head Community College, and once again had some magical football being played. The game was going to take something special to win, and with Davison down to 10 players, due to illness. Unfortunately Seaford Head took this opportunity and scored a 25yrd goal in the last 5 mins of the game. Danni Lane played with excellence determination and commitment thought out the game.

Good luck to Steyning Grammar in the final in April/May

Davison Cluster News

The start of May saw 13 yr10 girls from Davison get selected to be this years BSKYB Living for Sport group. The programme is designed to boost pupils self confidence and communication skills through different sporting experiences. Since then the girls have been very busy, learning how to Windsurf, Kayak, Sail, Dry Ski, Rock Climbing and meeting World Kayaking Champions! However last week was their real challenge with 48 Yr3 pupils coming to Davison for a Striking and Fielding Workshop and Tournament run entirely by the Living for Sport girls. Both the Yr3 pupils and the Yr10 girls were fantastic, with a big well done to the Overall winners of the tournament Broadwater’s ‘A’ team!
A big thank you to all the staff and parents that have supported the girls throughout the programme.

Year 7 pupils from Broadwater, Thomas a Becket and Downsbrook came to Davison the other week for an intake assessment day. The girls were put through their paces from Jon Mills doing Multi Skills, the Community Gymnastic coach Sam Wilcox, Netball coach Maxine Howells, UK Athletics coach Chris Marsden and SAQ coach Jerry. The pupils and coaches worked extremely hard all day – a big thank you for making the day such a success.

This week has seen 25 Yr10 Junior Sports Leaders from Davison going in to Downsbrook Middle school to help with the Sports Activities week and a further ten Junior Sports Leaders helped to run Broadwater C of E Middle and First school Sports Day - A big thank you to Judy Coulson for organising the Downsbrook week and Fran Pritlove for letting our girls loose on real children!

HIGH FIVE NETBALL WORKSHOP
Hosted at Davison, over 30 year 5 pupils from Downsbrook, Chesswood and Broadwater Middle schools came and took part in the workshop led by year 11 Davison girls as part of their Junior Sports Leaders Award. The year 5’s were put through their paces in a series of ‘Coca Cola Netball Award’ activities which tested their footwork, speed, agility and shooting skills. All 35 pupils achieved their ‘Next Step Netballer’ award for all their hard work and energy. The workshop ended with High Five games where all the pupils learnt rules and tactics ready for their tournament in December.

A big thank you to the Middle schools; pupils, parents and teachers for their support, year 11 JSLA girls and to Sue James and Nicky Hardy for organising the workshop.
