Southern Area Partnership - Details
The partnerships' overall aim is to help schools to ensure that their pupils spend a minimum of two hours each week on high quality PE and school sport. Seven outcomes have been targeted:
  • Increased participation in high quality PE
  • Increased participation in high quality out of school hours learning
  • Increased participation in high quality competition and performance
  • Increased participation in high quality informal physical activity
  • Increased attainment and achievement in and through PE, OSHL and sport
  • Improved attitude, behaviour and attendance through PE, OSHL and sport
  • Increased participation in community based sport and improved quality of community life

The partnership receives a grant each year which pays for:
  • A full time Partnership Development Manager
  • The release of one teacher from each secondary school who takes on the role of School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCO)
  • The release of one teacher from each primary school for ten days a year to allow them to become Primary Link Teachers (PLTs)
  • Specialist Link Teachers (SLTs) who fill the gaps created by teacher release
